A BMX club has marked its 10-year anniversary with a big celebration.
Gosport BMX Club held a party to mark the anniversary as part of its summer series race programme.
In the past 10 years the group has grown in size and popularity and will now be able to improve its facilities.
It comes as the club was successful in a bid by Sport England for £150,000.
The cash will be used to refurbish the track, off Grange Road.
Brett Simpson, from the club, was happy with how the birthday celebration went and the number of people who came to watch the racing.
He said: ‘The club is constantly going from strength to strength with track improvements and also membership numbers.
‘Now that BMX is an Olympic sport, it’s seeing a resurgence from its heyday back in the 1980s and it’s impacting on the sport across the country.
‘The club is purely run by volunteers and provides support and coaching to members of all ages, which is currently three-years-old to 60.
‘It has been fantastic to reach such a milestone and with a membership of riders around the 200 mark we are growing even bigger.
‘The party at the racing was a good way to celebrate and people were really happy for us to reach 10 years.’
As previously reported in The News, the club was overjoyed when it learnt it had been successful in securing the £150,000.
Chairman Stuart Catford said at the time: ‘We are overwhelmed and delighted to have secured this investment thanks to the council’s support. It will allow us to deliver a unique facility to the community that meets the highest national and European standards.
‘We will now be able to match the quality of our riders and allow them to realise their full potential.
‘It will also encourage more people to partake in this fast, exciting and family-oriented sport.’
Brett added: ‘The track will be able to host European events, which is going to put Gosport on the map.
‘It’s going to be a huge undertaking but when it’s upgraded, it will be the only national-standard track in the south.’
