Craig McAllister's men were beaten 2-1 by their Hampshire rivals and still await their first point on the road this season.

Borough found themselves behind after just five minutes when Sam Argent headed home from close range.

And Basingstoke doubled their lead in the 26th minute through a well-worked team goal.

Sam Dreadfield and Sam Smart linked up well before the former finished off the move.

However, Gosport managed to reduce the arrears two minutes before half-time.

Ryan Pennery broke through Town's defence before crashing a shot beyond home keeper Colm McAdden.

The second half was an entertaining contest, with Argent thumping an effort off the crossbar from 10 yards in the 76th minute.

Borough almost snatched an equaliser four minutes from full-time but a yellow shirt could not get on the end of Harry Medway's dangerous cross.

Meanwhile, Moneyfields fell to a 2-0 loss against Winchester City in Southern League division one south at Dover Road.

The hosts found themselves a goal down at half-time, while Jamie Barron had two free-kicks saved for City early in the second period.

Winchester's pressure eventually told, though, with Moneys conceding a second.
