AN ANIMAL charity is offering cheap cat neutering to help lower the number of unwanted kittens.

Gosport Cats Protection says it has seen a huge increase in the number of unwanted cats and kittens being handed in or abandoned.

The charity is now offering to arrange neutering with a local vet at a subsidised price of £5.

Kate Stapleford, of Gosport Cats Protection, said: ‘One cat can have up to three litters of kittens a year with up to five or six kittens in each litter, so it’s easy to see how the problem can escalate.

‘Gosport Cats Protection has seen a huge increase in unwanted kittens and cats being handed in or abandoned and of course unneutered cats add to this spiral.

‘We are running the £5 neutering scheme to try and alleviate the pressure on owners and animal charities.’

The offer is open to anyone with a PO12, PO13 or PO14 post code and is on a low income, benefits or pension.

The offer to subsidise ends on May 31.
