Gosport dogs battle to take the biscuit at first show

Gosport Rotary Club held its first Kennel Club Companion Charity Dog Show and the day was deemed a huge success.

Breeds from Wales, Newbury and Ireland competed in the event, as well as dogs belonging to people from across the Gosport area.

The show, at Walpole Park, had 20 different classes including pedigree, cross-breed and novelty.

The Rotary Club had been planning the show for four months and was happy with how it went.

Member Malcolm Dent said: ‘This looks like the start of something big in Gosport, so we want to thank everyone for supporting us and giving so much to help worthy causes.

‘We were a bit concerned about how many people would come along and what the weather would be like.

‘But not only hundreds of locals with their dogs appeared, but people from Ireland, Wales and places like Newbury lined up to enter their respective classes.

‘Many commented that they had never been to a better-run or organised dog show.’

As well as the dog show, the day also had 40 stalls, bouncy castles and a range of refreshments which families enjoyed.

The mayor of Gosport Councillor Lynn Hook and Gosport MP Caroline Dinenage attended the event last Saturday.

More than £5,000 was raised for various charities.

Malcolm added: ‘The £5,000 that we took on the day means local charities will reap the benefit.’
