A MASONIC lodge has raised £700 for local charities after a year of fundraising.

The cash, raised by 903 Lodge in Gosport, will go to various groups, including £200 to the Rocky Appeal.

It is raising £3m for state-of-the-art operating theatres at Queen Alexandra Hospital, in Cosham.

Gosport Voluntary Action, Cancer Research UK, Alzheimer’s and Radio Haslar are all set to receive donations of £100 each. Age UK and Footsteps 4 Oliver will both receive £50.

Dennis Gough, worshipful master at the lodge, said fundraising is an important activity for the masons.

He said: ‘Every year you get a new worshipful master installed. Some of the monies raised by raffles and other means are put into a fund.

‘Then we have a meeting and that money is donated to local causes.’
