Gosport group put on a show for charity

The Thorngate Pantomime and Variety Company put on the performance and, thanks to the generous audience, £600 was raised on the night.

The variety show, held at Thorngate Halls, in Gosport, had a range of acts from singers to dancers with theatre groups from the community taking part.

Held last month, the variety show was raising money for families affected by the floods in the north.

The group wanted to help as many people as they could and were delighted with the total raised.

As well as donations for tickets, the event had a raffle.

Janet Pierce, from the variety company, says: ‘We had so many raffle prizes on offer that we weren’t able to sell them all,

‘Everyone was so generous and it was amazing to have raised so much money.

‘A lot of the people who came loved it.

‘It was only £1 to get in, which shows how generous people were and how successful the show was. People said they would have been happy to pay more.

‘We never expected to raise anywhere near that much so we were really happy.’

The mayor of Gosport Cllr Keith Farr and his wife June also attended the show.

Janet said it was wonderful for them to come along and they seemed to enjoy the event.

The Thorngate Pantomime and Variety Company also hold a pantomime every year as well as the variety show.

Their pantomime was also very popular leaving the audience laughing.

Janet adds: ‘People love the pantomime and it is very popular every year.

‘We always try to do a range of shows to suit everyone.

‘We held it the week before the variety show and we were happy with how both of them went.’
