GOSPORT residents will soon find out whether their town has been crowned a winner of this year’s Britain in Bloom competition.
Judges for the contest, which is run by the Royal Horticultural Society, will pay a visit to the area on Tuesday, July 31.
They will score Gosport on its horticultural achievement, community participation and environmental responsibility.
And they will look at Gosport’s parks and open spaces as well as the town centre and conservation areas.
The town is being judged in the small city category alongside Loughborough, Crawley, Taunton and Harrogate.
The winner will be announced at an awards ceremony in Guernsey on October 6.
Roger Burnett, chairman of the Britain in Bloom judging panel, said: ‘Our finalists have had to endure difficult weather conditions and ongoing council cuts.
‘But this is why I’m even more excited than normal, because I love seeing the imaginative ways communities overcome challenges.’
