Alex Alley, 48 from Alverstoke in Gosport, was meant to be setting sail from Haslar Marina at the start of November.

But due to bad weather off the Bay of Biscay, his departure has been put on hold '“ and it doesn't look like he'll be out at sea for at least another week.

Alex said: '˜I can't believe I'm still here waiting for the weather window.

'˜The original plan was to leave for the record at the start of November, but we are now looking at at least another 10 days before anything changes out in the Atlantic, and even then we don't quite know how things will pan out '“ so for now it is still a case of just sitting tight and waiting.

'˜Although the weather here in Gosport may appear okay, what we are looking at is the weather several days after departure, across the Bay of Biscay and around Cape Finistere at the North Western tip of Spain.'

Alex hopes to beat the current record of 137 days, 20 hours, one minute and 57 seconds in his crowdfunded vessel Pixel Flyer '“ a 40ft vessel which has the faces and logos of the people and organisations who have sponsored the attempt on the hull.
