FIREFIGHTERS rescued a pensioner who became trapped inside a lift.

The elderly man became stuck in the lift at Hazeldene Rest Home, in Bury Road, Gosport, early yesterday morning.

A team from Gosport fire station was alerted to the pensioner’s plight at 1.07am.

They travelled to the rest home and worked to free him.

‘The man suffered from severe asthma,’ said a spokesman from Gosport fire station. ‘Luckily, the first set of lift keys we used opened the doors so we were able to lead him out safely very quickly.’

The lift is understood to have suffered a power loss.
