Gosport sailing scheme for teenagers kicks off with first session

YOUNGSTERS taking part in a sailing scheme got their first taste of the course at the weekend.

Gosport Marine Scene’s Marine Futures project kicked off on Saturday at Lee-on-the-Solent Sailing Club.

The teenagers picked for the scheme took part in a Try a Sail session where they learnt the basics of sailing.

Megan Eddles said: ‘I had so much fun.

‘I was allowed to take the helm.

‘The instructors were brilliant and I’m looking forward to the next session.’

Thirteen-year-old Stefan Bugg enjoyed the session so much he joined the sailing club and crewed for a member later that day.

Councillor John Beavis, from Gosport Marine Scene, said: ‘The Lee Sailing Club team were brilliant. The young people had great fun.’

The Marine Futures Scheme aims to promote the maritime industry to young people in Gosport.

They have already met with Gosport & Fareham Inshore Rescue Service and Search and Rescue helicopter team.
