THE Co-operative Group has taken over the former Spar mini-market in Winston Churchill Avenue, Portsmouth.

In the Trafalgar House building, the new food shop includes a bakery, Costa coffee machine and cash machine and is open from 7am to 11pm every day.

Manager Jillian Miles said the Co-operative had invested £250,000 in the new shop.

Mr Miles said: ‘We are thrilled to have a fantastic new food store with which to serve the Portsmouth community.

‘It is an exciting time for the whole store team, and we believe the store will really be an asset.’

The shop has meant 10 new jobs and one employee has been appointed a ‘community pioneer’ whose job it is to foster involvement and participation in community activities and fundraising programmes.
