HUNDREDS of pounds has been donated to a charity that helps victims of rape and sexual abuse.

The Portsmouth Area Rape Crisis Service has received a £3,300 grant from the Santander Foundation’s Community Plus initiative.

The money will be used to provide a new telephone service, giving clients up to six sessions of specialist emotional support and counselling.

Centre director Kim Hosier said: ‘We’ve had many requests for this new service.

‘Due to increasing demands for specialist counselling, survivors often have to wait several months for support, and the donation will enable us to meet some of this demand for help more promptly.’
