HOUSEHOLDERS can make energy-saving improvements to their homes and get cash back for doing so by signing up to the Green Deal.

Ninety people living in the Havant Borough Council area have already expressed an interest in the scheme to improve homes and reduce energy bills.

Homes can be improved and made cheaper to run by installing insulation, new boilers or double glazing – and residents can get a cash back payment of between 10 and 70 per cent.

Homeowners, private landlords and tenants can sign up – but it is available on a first-come, first-served basis only.

Residents who do not have cash to pay upfront can take out a loan through Hampshire Credit Union or a Green Deal plan.

Savings and other ways of finance can also be used for the remaining cost of works.

It is open to all ages and households do not need to be receiving any benefits to take part. Energy advice will also be given.
