A HORTICULTURAL group in Portsmouth is appealing for more members.

Portsmouth Horticultural Society meets on the second Wednesday of the month.

Committee member Wendy Favell said: ‘When we first started we were in the 100s with members.

‘Now we have about 30. We used to have a big show each year and give out trophies and floral prizes. I don’t know why membership has fallen so much, but we need people to know we’re here.

‘We arrange activities and we carry out trips to famous gardens. A few years ago we arranged a trip to Prince Charles’ garden in Highgrove.’

Membership is £10 a year and the group meets once a month, except for July and August, between 7pm to 9pm, at the Hilsea Scout Hall, The Ridings, Gatcombe Park Hilsea. To find out more call Wendy (023) 9238 5165.
