Group of volunteers help organise foodbank's stocks

The team got hands helping food bank volunteers sort, date and pack hundreds of crates of food at the King’s Church Hall.

From bacon crisps to Bolognese sauce, items were stocked ready for distribution as emergency food packages to local people in crisis.

The minister of The King’s Church, Gareth Benton said: ‘The day with the NWF team was great.

‘In the next few months we are hoping to build a new warehouse for our food so the team helped sort the food ready for this move.

‘We are very grateful for the effort the team put in and to NWF for releasing their time.’

Natures Way Foods, a fresh food manufacturer based in West Sussex, operates a broad community programme which includes volunteer days for employees.

Natures Way Foods, which is based in the Selsey and Chichester areas, employs people from all over the south coast and several volunteers are local to Portsmouth.

Portsmouth Food Bank is run by the King’s Church in partnership with North End Bapist Church and Paulsgrove Baptist Church.

It provides an emergency food parcel service to local people in crisis, addressing their food poverty need.

The food will provide essential nutrition for families to survive for a short 
time while they resolve their crisis with local authority services and agencies.

The Food Bank provides three days’ worth of emergency food supplies.

It collects approximately £55,000 worth of food every year and last year fed 6,075 people.

Donations are always welcome and there are a number of donation points across the Portsmouth area.
