A FORMER sailor will take shoppers back to a bygone era when he comes under the spotlight in Gunwharf.

Vince Hall, a former able seaman aboard HMS Bristol during the Falklands War, will belt out tunes by Frank Sinatra, Matt Monro and Nat King Cole in Central Square in the hope of raising money for Help for Heroes.

The 52-year-old, of Lee-on-the-Solent, will hold his day of entertainment on Saturday, February 25 between 11am and 5pm. Mr Hall, who hopes to raise up to £2,000, will hand over a cheque for the amount raised to the armed forces charity when he sings tunes at HMS Drake in Plymouth in March.

He said: ‘I learnt to sing whilst I was in the navy, so it seemed like a great way of raising money for a fantastic charity.’
