A COMMUNITY gym has been shortlisted for a national award.
Havant Leisure Centre Gym has been nominated in a ‘charitable trust gym of the year’ category in the National Fitness Awards.
Carl Shear is operations manager at Horizon Leisure Centres, which manages the gym.
Mr Shear said he was delighted with the nomination.
He said it was the second year in a row the gym had been nominated for the award.
Mr Shear said: ‘It’s a fantastic achievement for us to reach the final six of a prestigious national fitness industry competition for the second year running.
‘This hopefully shows that we are offering the local community what the community has asked for and comes hot on the heels of our recent Gym of the Year award from the Portsmouth News.’
Horizon chief executive Howard Broad said: ‘For a leisure provider operating from Havant and Waterlooville, it’s a great achievement to be shortlisted in this national fitness awards competition for the second year running.
‘The team at Horizon have worked tirelessly to deliver a fantastic new gym at Havant Leisure Centre which has been much appreciated by our members and as a charity we are proud of the high standard of facilities we have provided to the local community.’
The gym has been visited by a member of the National Fitness Awards team who has taken a look around the facilities, interviewed the manager and talked to members and staff before compiling a report which has been passed on to a panel of judges.
National Fitness Awards director Judith Halkerston said: ‘It’s been another great year for the National Fitness Awards with an excellent standard of entries.
‘The work going on in fitness facilities up and down the country is inspirational and every gym which has made the shortlist should be very proud of their achievement thus far.
‘Congratulations to them all.’
The winner will be announced at an awards ceremony in Leicester tomorrow.
