THREE good causes on Hayling Island are set to benefit from a £30,000 windfall.

Hayling Island Community Responders, RNLI and Friends of Chichester Harbour are each set to benefit from £10,000 in the year ahead with the Community Support Card initiative run by The Southern Co-operative at Elm Grove, Mengham.

A Halloween-themed party is being held at Hayling Island Community Centre, in Station Road, on Sunday, October 28 to mark the start of the fundraising.

There will be a magic show, a fancy dress competition, pumpkin carving, and Halloween cake decorating, as well as live music from Blues Deluxe.

The fun takes place from 1pm to 4pm.

The scheme works by people swiping a card every time they buy groceries and
a portion is donated to charity.

Jason Lindsay, retail business manager, said: ‘The more customers use the card, the more quickly funds are raised.’
