A FAMILY will clock up around 3,000 miles driving an old banger through Africa to raise cash.

Barry Woodward, 65, of Locks Heath, along with sons Neil, 38, and James, 35, will drive a 1990 Ford Fiesta from Portsmouth, through Spain, Morocco and on to Dakhla as part of the Dakhla Challenge.

The trip is expected to take 18 days, and at the end of it the left-hand drive car will be donated to locals in Dakhla.

Barry is being sponsored to raise money for deaf charity The Elizabeth Foundation, which is based at Queen Alexandra Hospital, Cosham.

He said: ‘This has always been a dream of mine to do and now I’m finally getting the chance. Plus it’s also going to help a local cause with sponsorship.’
