AN UNEXPLODED hand grenade was found by a member of the public at a home in Gosport.
Police and bomb disposal experts were called to Rowner Lane at 1.15pm on Saturday.
The grenade was found by men carrying out building work on a thatched cottage in the area.
The Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) were called to the area and the grenade was removed and taken away to Lee-on-the-Solent where it was detonated and put in an ordnance box.
The man who found it, who asked not to be named, said: ‘We were digging to replace a water pipe and found it and called the police.
‘It was live.’
The grenade was described as being rusty and highly corroded.
It’s not clear how old it was.
