SHOWING how Christmas can bring people together, this picture of neighbours Kerry Owen and Eric Bartlett is our One Christmas Day winner.
We asked people to send in photographs of their Christmas Day and we were flooded with entries.
It was nice just to see Eric looking so happy and enjoying his time with us.Kerry Owen
From youngsters opening presents to families dressed in funny Christmas jumpers, you showed us what the day means to you.
And for the winner of our competition Kerry, opening her door to elderly next-door neighbour Eric is what Christmas is all about.
She said: ‘My husband Mike has been neighbours with Eric for around 20 years.
‘They have always been quite close and as he’s got older and the more he needs help, we have been helping him. Eric’s brother lives in the same road and everyone else in the close looks out for him as well.
‘We are all quite friendly and look out for each other.’
Kerry, from Astrid Close, on Hayling Island, said Eric went round theirs on Christmas Day in the morning where they snapped the winning picture.
The 44-year-old added: ‘When we looked back at the picture, we thought it just shows how happy he is.
‘We thought it was a lovely picture but we never expected to win.
‘It was nice just to see Eric looking so happy and enjoying his time with us.’
And Eric is not the only one who benefits from popping round to his neighbours.
Kerry said the 97-year-old reminds them to have a positive outlook on life.
‘Eric is a very active person but went through a stage of being down,’ she said. ‘After getting help from carers and seeing more of the neighbours, he has had a new lease of life.
‘He is always looking forward to the future and never looking back.
‘Eric is really positive about life and that is a really good thing.’
Kerry and Mike, who took the picture, can now enjoy the prize of our competition.
They have won a three-night weekend break for up to six people at Selsey-based Bunn Leisure.
