Havant charity supporting ill children boosted by £5,000 cemetary donation

Bereaved families have enabled the Oaks Crematorium in Havant to donate £5,000 to Over the Wall (OTW). 

With a base in Havant, the initiative offers stays at free therapeutic activity camps to as many as 650 children between the ages of eight and 17 every year, across the UK. 

The money from the crematorium in Bartons Road came from its membership to a national fundraising scheme run by the Institute of Cemetery and Crematorium Management (ICCM) and was presented on Tuesday.

The cash will enable OTW to maintain the support and enjoyment it gives its youngsters, who typically battle life-limiting illnesses. 

OTW's director of development, Isabel Overton, said: '˜We are incredibly grateful to have received this generous donation from The Oaks. These funds will help us to provide even more places for children with health challenges, allowing them to enjoy the free residential camps that Over The Wall provides.'

Ian Rudkin, crematorium and natural burial ground manager for The Oaks, said the donation was a '˜real pleasure'.
