Have your say

Hi, my name is Tom Jackson, I’m 19 years old and an aspiring journalist.

After completing two years at South Downs college and attaining A-levels in philosophy, English Language and sport I was presented with an incredible opportunity to take one of the first steps into what I hope will be a long and healthy career in journalism. I saw an advert in The News for this NCTJ course and I applied instantly despite my application to do journalism at Winchester University. This course offers me hands-on experience which is undeniably better than anything a university can offer.

Oh - and I don’t have to pay £9,000 a year!

In any spare time I have I like to play sport and listen to music. I’m a massive Portsmouth fan and have watched them all my life. My passion for sport makes writing about sport a lot easier.

Music has always been important to me, I’m a regular at festivals and attend gigs as much as I possibly can.

Music journalism is ideal for me as it combines my love of music and writing.

As a naturally sociable and curious character, I believe that I will be successful pursuing a career in journalism.
