PUPILS and teachers working together to raise money at an annual event saw them pick up Best School at the We Can Do It awards.

Park Community School, in Havant, won after more than 1,000 people from the school took part in their Race at Our Place event.

There was a lot of worthy people out there who easily could have won.

Teacher Georgie Harris started the fundraiser for her sister Louisa Hirst who was diagnosed with breast cancer. Sadly, Ms Hirst lost her battle with the disease last October.

After picking up the award, Georgie said: ‘There were a lot of worthy people out there who easily could have won.

‘I feel very proud for the school and so many people at the school take part to support the event. We have raised more than £2,000 which is fantastic.

‘I didn’t think we would win but I know the school will be happy. It is fantastic to have their support every year.’

Miltoncross School came runner-up for donating hampers to a homeless shelter.
