VOLUNTEERS across Havant were recognised for their contribution to the community at an awards ceremony.

A total of 67 volunteers were presented with awards at the event held at the Public Service Plaza in Civic Centre Road.

Certificates were presented by the Mayor of Havant, Cllr Gerald Shimbart, and volunteers were nominated by a range of organisations including charity shops, Mencap, Hampshire Constabulary, and Trospacc Children’s Centre.

Volunteers had to give a minimum of 100 hours of service.

Beryl Scott MBE, was awarded for her 30 years service to 1st Cowplain Scout Group.

Janet Duggan, from Havant Volunteer Centre, said: ‘The event was a great success with people being recognised from a variety of backgrounds.

‘Four young people from Havant Youth Council also received awards for their contribution to giving young people a voice in Havant borough.

‘Feedback from the day has been really positive with individuals and organisations contacting us to say how great it is to be officially recognised for the many hours they spend giving their time for free to help other people.’
