AN OPEN evening is being held for people to try their hand at morris dancing.

Victory Morris, which has been part of the dance and folk music scene in the Portsmouth area since 1975, is holding the event at the Irish Club at 77 Elm Grove, Southsea, on Thursday.

A spokesman said: ‘Complete novices are very welcome. Victory Morrismen dance in the ‘Cotswold’ style of Morris and have a strong tradition of singing at the end of our dancing sessions.

‘The evening will consist of dance practice until 10pm, don’t worry, we will keep it simple. After the dancing, join us for a drink and a chat to find out about our activities, travels and adventures. We are a friendly bunch and welcome men of all ages to join our group. We also welcome female musicians.’
