Have your say over potential children's centres closures across Gosport and the rest of the county

MORE than 1,100 people have voiced their concerns in a consultation on a council's plans to close Sure Start centres across the county.

Hampshire County Council is consulting residents on proposals to cut the number of centres from 54 to 11 and develop a streamlined Family Support Service.

The aim is to focus support on families who have high levels of need but do not meet the threshold for statutory social care.

In Gosport parents have been joined by MP Caroline Dinenage in campaigning against the changes.

Councillor Keith Mans, executive member for children’s services at the council, said: ‘We are just over half way through the ten-week consultation period and I am extremely keen that as many people as possible make their views known to us.

‘I am especially keen to hear the views of those that have used and been helped by children’s centre services and early help support.’

Council officers will be at Waterlooville Community Centre, on April 21 between 1pm and 3pm to give more information about the proposals.

A decision will be made in July. To take part online go to hants.gov.uk/childrens-services-consultation by May 3.
