THE next stage of work to improve an island cycle and walking path is set to begin soon.

The Hayling Billy Trail links Hayling Island and Havant. Work to widen a 100ft long section of the trail is due to start on Monday. Havant Borough Council is advising drivers to allow more time for journeys on and off of the island as a temporary traffic light control system will be installed from Monday, operating between 9.30am and 4pm.

A spokeswoman said the work should be finished ‘well before Christmas’ but is weather-dependent.

The northbound Ship Inn bus stop will be out of use while the work is carried out and bus passengers are asked to use the bus stop at Langstone High Street instead.

Once complete the northbound bus stop at The Ship Inn will be moved and new access kerbs will be installed to make boarding buses easier for people who have problems with mobility.

The work will link sections opposite The Ship Inn in Langstone Road, north of Langstone Bridge.
