Hayling flower show brings in the crowds on rainy weekend

The event showcased a stunning array of flowers as well as art and photography, all of which were entered into competitions where the winners were awarded prize money.

The show featured spring flowers, floral art, vegetables, pot plants, photography, cookery, embroidery and handicrafts.

‘It takes about 100 people in various teams to put the show together,’ said Jan Mitchell, publicity officer for the society.

‘It’s a huge effort and everybody comes together to produce the show with all volunteer work.

‘The people who have grown live within the community and they’re showing off their best efforts.’

Trophies were given to winners in several categories for both members of the society and non-members.

It was a difficult year for daffodil growers as the changing weather posed a real challenge.

Mark Ward of Waterlooville was winner in five categories of daffodil growing.

‘The weather’s been up and down and hot and cold but the flowers look nice and I’m really pleased,’ he said.
