They are the heroes that we rely on when we are sick and offer us support when we need them the most.
And last night they were given the chance to shine as Portsmouth Guildhall played host to the The News’ seventh annual Best of Health Awards.
A total of 12 awards were handed out in an entertaining and encapsulating evening at which our doctors, nurses, pharmacies, nursing homes, hospital teams, GP and dental practices were put under the spotlight.
It was a hugely successful evening for double-award winners Woodland Court.
The Portchester facility struck gold as it picked up both the Care/Nursing Home of The Year award and the Compassion and Care Award.
Charlotte Harman, the home’s deputy manager was lost for words after celebrating the second win.
She said: ‘I just can’t believe it. We are all so shocked as we never thought we would be coming home with one, let alone two!
‘I am so very proud of our team who do such an amazing job and that is what has led to us getting this recognition.
‘People tell us that they love Woodland Court because we feel like a family there and that is very much the message we want to get across.’
There was a chorus of huge cheers throughout the night as runner-up and winners collected their gongs.
Alan Mak, MP for Havant, was present to hand out the award for Hospital Team of the Year.
He said: ‘The awards are a fantastic event that highlight the great work of our health sector and shows the incredible work they do.’
‘It’s been a great evening and I wanted to say congratulations to all who were nominated and to those that won.’
Mark Waldron, editor of The News said: ‘The Best of Health Awards are a great event every year and this was no exception. I want to say a huge congratulations to all those who won awards.’
