DOCTORS in the area can bid for a share of £100m to help improve GP access for patients.

The second wave of the prime minister’s challenge fund has been launched and practices can put in bids of how the cash will be used to improve or extend services.

Other practices that won cash in wave one of the scheme have used the money help 8am to 8pm working, better use of health apps and access to appointments through email and Skype.

Bids will need to serve a minimum population of 30,000.

Mike Bewick, NHS England’s deputy medical director, said: ‘Even more patients across the country will now be able to see their family doctor in the most convenient way for them and at a more convenient time.’
