AN AIR ambulance charity is flying high, thanks to a £1,000 donation.

The money was handed over by Nigel Cook, chief executive of mystery shopping company, Douglas Stafford, to the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance (HIOWAA).

Each year team members at Douglas Stafford, which has its headquarters at 1000 Lakeside, Portsmouth, hold a series of fundraising events to raise money for the company’s chosen charity of the year.

Mr Cook said: ‘Around 80 per cent of air ambulance call-outs are to road traffic accidents, and the fact that a high percentage of our business is with the automotive sector, I felt it was an appropriate and very worthwhile charity to support.

‘I know at least one of our team members has benefitted from the service and it’s something we could all benefit from, if the case arose.’

Rosemarie Norman, of the HIOWAA, said: ‘We have to raise £125,000 a month to keep the much-used service operational and we rely 100 per cent on public contributions.

‘When companies such as Douglas Stafford make us their charity of the year, we are very grateful.’
