SHE has been described as not just a community nurse, but more as friend to the family.
That’s why Alyson Dennis has scooped the top prize in the Community Nurse/Team of the Year category at this year’s News Best of Health Awards, held at the Guildhall, Portsmouth.
Alyson, 42, works as a community children’s respiratory nurse, and is based in Admiral House, Cosham.
She said: ‘I was shocked when I found out I was nominated, but I was honoured.
‘It’s amazing I was put up and I’m thrilled to have won.
‘I would like to say thank you to Sharon-Louise Farren for putting me forward.’
Alyson is part of a team of community nurses and looks after children with respiratory difficulties, such as asthma.
‘I talk to people about the different treatment they can get,’ added Alyson.
‘I also go out to see GPs and practice nurses and make sure there is the same standard being delivered throughout.
‘I have been doing this job for three years now and I absolutely love it.
‘It’s the best job I have ever had and I see myself doing it for a long time.’
On nominating Alyson, Sharon-Louise, of Rockrose Way, Paulsgrove, said: ‘Alyson has always been there for my family. She has helped us through so much and we see her not only as my children’s nurse, but as a good friend.
‘She always smiles and goes above and beyond the normal nurse duties – she really is amazing.’
