THE grandmother of five-year-old Ashya King said she is ‘angry’ with the police’s handling of her family.

Patricia King, of Southsea, has spoken out as her son Brett King, 51, and his wife Naghmeh, 45, are in Spanish police custody arrested for maltreatment of their son Ashya.

The five-year-old was in Southampton General Hospital being treated for a brain tumour. But on Thursday afternoon his family took him from the hospital and took a ferry to France before making their way to Spain.

Ashya’s grandmother said: ‘I’m very worried, extremely worried and I don’t know what’s happening.

‘I don’t want Ashya to be left there without his family.’

And speaking about the way Hampshire Constabulary have handled the case, Ms King said: ‘I’m very angry about it.

‘It’s all been taken too far, much too far.

‘My son couldn’t believe Ashya’s picture has been all over the papers.

‘And my flat has been searched as well.

As reported, last night at about 8pm, hotel staff in Malaga, Spain, recognised Ashya and his family as a result of high levels of publicity in the media.

The hotel staff then contacted Spanish police and Ashya’s parents were arrested.

Police said that Ashya was then taken to a high-dependency unit at Materno Infantile Hospital in Malaga, where he is now in a general ward.
