A CONFERENCE to highlight the number of bereavement services in the area is to be held in Portsmouth.

A partnership between The Bereavement Centre and Solent NHS Trust will bring together the bereavement care services available in the Portsmouth area for a one-day conference aimed at health professionals, volunteers and carers.

Working with the Bereaved in Portsmouth is to take place on Thursday, November 1, at the Mountbatten Centre, from 8.30am to 4.30pm.

The aim is to help raise awareness of the range and quality of services across the city available through both professional and voluntary agencies.

The programme will include speakers from The Bereavement Centre, The Co-operative Funeralcare and the Rowans Hospice.

Conference organiser Ingrid McAllister-Derry of the Bereavement Centre said: ‘Combining the expertise and wealth of knowledge of so many agencies that will be speaking at the conference, the day will be of value to nursing home managers, hospital matrons, carers, victim support managers, teachers and hospice volunteers alike.’

Places, which must be booked in advance, cost £10 per person including lunch and refreshments.

The fees will be donated to the Lord Mayor’s Appeal.
