HEALTH secretary Andrew Lansley has cancelled his visit to Portsmouth.
The top health minister was due to officially open the new St Mary’s Community Health Campus, in Milton, later today.
But yesterday the Department of Health confirmed his trip has been postponed.
A protest planned outside the campus in Milton Road will still go ahead.
Mick Tosh, president of the Portsmouth Trades Council, said: ‘We have no idea why he has cancelled.
‘I would rather he was here so he could feel the wrath of some of the people.
‘The demonstration will go ahead as planned, as unlike cabinet ministers, we will not be cancelling.
‘We have people coming from all over the city to this.’
Campaigners will still be holding demonstrations today against the newly-formed Health and Social Care Bill and proposed changes to public pensions.
A Department of Health spokesman said: ‘The Secretary of State sadly couldn’t attend the visit today because of other business in parliament.
‘We are rescheduling and Mr Lansley hopes to be able to visit Portsmouth soon.’
