A MAYDAY call is being put out for people to donate blood.

NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) is hoping May will see more people make a date to donate.

Blood is needed for a range of medical emergencies such as patients undergoing treatments for cancer, people who have been involved in accidents and by women who experience complications during childbirth.

NHSBT spokesperson Jonathan Sewell said: ‘Now the worst of the wintry weather is hopefully out of the way and temperatures are on the rise, we are calling for people here in the Portsmouth area to spare just a little of their time to donate blood.’

Sessions take place at the following dates, locations and times:

· Tuesday, May 8, Waterlooville Community Centre, Maurepas Way, Waterlooville, from 11am to 1.30pm and 3pm to 5.30pm.

· Wednesday, May 9, St John’s Church Hall, St Michael’s Grove, Fareham, from 1.30pm to 3.25pm and 4.30pm to 7.30pm.

· Thursday, May 10, St Wilfrid’s Parish Church Hall, Padnell Road, Cowplain, from 1.30pm to 3.25pm and 4.30pm to 7.30pm.
