OVERWHELMING support for the NHS is the message that has been sent to the two city MPs as thousands have signed a petition to safeguard the service.
Almost 3,000 residents signed the 38 Degrees Save our NHS petition which was launched last February and saw the campaign group collect signatures at demonstrations across the city.
Certificates, summarising the mass support for the petition, have now been sent to Portsmouth North MP Penny Mordaunt and Portsmouth South MP Flick Drummond.
Sue Mullan, local campaign co-ordinator, said: ‘We want them to know how much we value our NHS.
‘As our representatives in Parliament we will rely on them to protect our interests.’
‘We are concerned that, unless politicians take action now to safeguard its future, the health service as we know it may not be there for our children and our grandchildren.’
