A SURPRISE donation of more than £1,000 has left a charity group overwhelmed.

The Portsmouth and South East Hampshire Group of the Motor Neurone Disease Association were given £1,266 by the local branch of the Confederation of Ship Building and Engineering Union (CSEU).

The CSEU. which consists of different unions’ members, was asked to nominate four charities to donate their dispute funds budget as it was no longer needed. They chose the RNLI, The British Heart Foundation, Cancer Relief and the Portsmouth and SE Hants Group of MNDA.

John Horton, of CSEU, said: ‘We chose the charity because of the disease’s debilitating effects and it receives little publicity.’
