COMPANIES need to do more to support terminally-ill staff, a council has said.
Portsmouth City Council issued the call to arms after the organisation became the latest to sign up to the Trade Union Congress’s Dying to Work campaign.
The effort seeks to improve how workers diagnosed with terminal illnesses are treated by their employers.
The pledged was signed by city leaders, who are now urging others to follow suit.
Councillor Jeanette Smith said ‘many businesses’ were not as ‘supportive’ of ill staff as they should be, adding: ‘ People should not be penalised by their employers and I would encourage business across Portsmouth to join us in making this commitment.’
