A RECYCLING reminder for unwanted footwear is being given to schoolchildren.
As schools are preparing to end term for the summer holidays, people are being told not to chuck away old shoes.
Instead of binning old school shoes, football boots, trainers and wellies, the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance, is asking people to donate them and raise money for the charity.
The shoes are sold on through reputable traders in other countries, or if they are in bad condition, can be used for parts to repair other footwear, so nothing is wasted.
The charity is asking people to save them for the Re-use Ya Shoes day, which takes place on September 12.
Volunteers will drive around to each school in the county to pick up the shoes.
Schools getting involved in the campaign will be asked to see how many bags they can fill and if they can build the highest tower of shoes, with prizes available for the school with the most shoes collected.
