COULD you spare a few minutes to help save a life this autumn?

NHS Blood and Transplant, the UK’s organ donor organisation, is urging people to give blood to make sure stocks stay healthy as winter approaches.

To help keep stock going four donor sessions will be held across the city in the coming weeks.

Each session takes less than 10 minutes and each donation could save up to three people’s lives.

John Canning, lead donor relations manager for NHS Blood and Transplant, said: ‘We need to collect thousands of units of blood every day to provide patients in hospitals across the country with life-saving transfusions.

‘At this time of year blood stocks tend to dip because people are unable to give blood, so it’s important that people come forward to donate if they can do.’

On October 31, Havant Leisure Centre, in Civic Centre Road, Havant, will welcome donors at 2pm and 5pm.

The Hayling Island Community Centre, in Station Road, Hayling Island, will hold sessions at 1.30pm and 4.30pm on November 2 and Thorngate Halls, in Bury Road, Gosport, will hold sessions at 1.30pm and 4.30pm on November 3.

On November 4, Cosham Community Centre, in Wootton Street, Cosham, will see donors at the same times.

Anyone aged between 17 and 65, weighing more than 50kg and in general good health can start saving lives by becoming a blood donor.

There is no maximum age limit for those who have donated in the last two years.
