WITH snow and ice forecast over the next few days, an ambulance service is issuing advice on how to keep safe during icy conditions.

South Central Ambulance Service suggests people stay away from driving in the bad weather, unless the journey is absolutely necessary.

It also recommends people have enough fuel, a mobile phone, an ice scraper, de-icer, blanket, shovel, jump leads, a warning triangle, a high-vis jacket, hot flask and food, in the event of getting trapped.

Stopping distances can be up to 10 times longer in ice or snow.

Gentle manoeuvres are the key to safe driving in heavy snow.
