TEAM GB gymnast Harry Owen will be performing and providing free training sessions for local children in a major free sports day.

FitBeat is taking place in Jubilee Park, off Horndean Road, Emsworth today, from 11am to 4.30pm.

It is a large, free of charge, outdoor event with activities including taster sessions by local clubs, It’s a Knock Out and a Children’s Olympiad.

Roebuck Drums, the troupe behind the Olympic Opening Ceremony drumming soundtrack, will be teaching visitors how to play the theme tune to the ceremony as well as performing.

FitBeat is the brain child of Ruth Dancer who was the Venue Manager for Eton Dorney where the Olympic and Paralympic rowing and canoe sprint was held.

She said: ‘We are absolutely thrilled to have not just a huge range of local sporting clubs doing free taster sessions and displays, but to have the future of British gymnastics teaching our local children and inspiring them to give it a go, really is a fantastic addition to FitBeat.’

Co-founder George ‘Topsy’ Turner said: ‘The sun has come out, summer is on its way, and we are preparing to get everyone in the local area outside, enjoying the sunshine and spending a bit of time together as a family and a community.

‘There really will be something for everyone, whether you want to spectate or participate, and it is all completely free of charge.’
