Debbie decided to raise money after her relative Moya died from breast cancer in August last year; just days before they were set to do the abseil. But because of high winds the event was cancelled and a new date set for April 8.

Debbie said: ‘It was so hard because Moya was meant to be there.

‘She was so loved and important to us all and we felt we had to do something positive. When she was diagnosed, the devastating news threatened to stop our family in its tracks, but we decided to take action to support Moya.

‘We decided to fundraise for Breast Cancer Haven because of the services they offer.

‘Research is paramount of course, but sometimes people need support and somewhere to go.’

The family, from Southampton, have raised nearly £2,000 which is enough to fund a 10-hour therapy programme for two women at the centre.

Jess Zubaidi, community fundraiser, said: ‘We are very grateful to Debbie and her family for taking on this remarkable challenge.’
