Free blood pressure checks being held in Portsmouth

PEOPLE can get their blood pressure checked for free as part of Know Your Numbers Week.

Volunteers from the Redeemed Christian Church of God Discipleship Centre, in Portsmouth, is setting up the stalls next month.

The event will give residents in the city the chance to get their blood pressure checked and will give tips on keeping blood pressure under control.

Omotola Adeojo, a registered nurse and member of the Discipleship Centre, said: ‘Blood pressure is one of the most preventable and treatable conditions but remains one of the leading causes of death.

‘As an individual having your blood pressure checked is the most important step that you can take to reduce your risk of stroke, heart attack or heart failure.’

The stalls will be opposite TK Maxx, in Cascades Shopping Centre from September 10 to September 14 between 10am and 4pm and outside the Discipleship Centre, on Clarence Street, on September 16 between 1pm and 2pm.

Hemini Bharadia, Know Your Numbers Week campaign manager, said: ‘People are dying unnecessarily because they fail to take simple steps to reduce their blood pressure.

‘The week is the perfect opportunity to put you in control of your health.’
