Fareham Leisure Centre is introducing health checks to help prevent serious diseases.
The centre in Park Lane, which is operated by Everyone Active in partnership with Fareham Borough Council, has been commissioned by NHS Hampshire and Hampshire County Council to deliver 2,000 NHS health checks to residents in Hampshire.
Specialist health division, Everyone Health, will be delivering the checks at the leisure centre to support local GPs.
The programme aims to help prevent heart disease, stroke, diabetes, kidney disease and certain types of dementia.
It is available for anyone aged 40–74 who has not had a health check in the past five years and who does not suffer with one of these pre-existing health conditions or have certain risk factors.
It is free and only takes about 20 minutes. The health check covers blood pressure, BMI, activity levels, a cholesterol test and a lifestyle questionnaire.
The results will be uploaded to a safe and secure website, Pharm Outcomes, which will then send all the patient’s details back to their individual GP, ensuring any health issues are picked up on quickly.
Participants will also be given lifestyle advice and ongoing recommendations to help them reduce and manage any risks discovered in the health check.
Fareham Leisure Centre’s general manager, Ryan Grant, said: ‘We are delighted to be involved in this initiative and to provide such an important service in a supportive and friendly environment to the local community.
‘Residents have been extremely positive about the scheme and how easy it is to access.
‘We offer a one-stop shop for people wanting to improve their health and wellbeing and make that life-changing decision to increase their activity levels and lead a healthier lifestyle.
