THE mayor of Fareham will be getting the kettle on when he holds a coffee morning to help a cancer charity.

Councillor Trevor Cartwright and Mayoress Ruth Cartwright are taking part in Macmillan Cancer Support’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning for councillors and staff at Fareham Borough Council next Friday.

Cllr Cartwright wants the people of Fareham to get involved too and said: ‘I know a considerable number of people who have personal experience of the problems a cancer diagnosis can bring to both patients and their family, and I know that Macmillan has been there to support many of those in need.

‘That’s why I’m hosting a coffee morning to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

‘I would also urge all residents to consider holding your own coffee morning or evening. It’s an easy and fun way to raise money for Macmillan and every penny you raise will help people with cancer.’

Last year thousands of people across the UK took part in coffee morning, raising around £8m for to help fund vital cancer services in Fareham.

The charity’s fundraising manager for Hampshire Lisa Murphy said: ‘We are extremely grateful to the mayor of Fareham for holding a coffee morning. Hopefully his participation will also encourage even more local people to sign up to host a coffee morning of their own.

‘It doesn’t have to be about coffee and mornings. It can be about afternoon tea or an evening dinner party.

‘All that matters is that you take part.’
