GP alliances in Fareham, Gosport and south east Hampshire to take part in pilot

Two GP alliances in the Fareham, Gosport and south east Hampshire areas have been chosen to take part along with 11 other areas in England.

The Fareham and Gosport GP Alliance and South Eastern Hampshire GP Alliance have been selected to trial the new GP Career Plus scheme, aimed at keeping hold of the vital skills and experience of GPs at risk of leaving the profession.

Olivia Falgayrac-Jones, head of primary care at NHS England’s Wessex office, said: ‘It is important that we have a strong workforce working within general practice, in order to deliver the best possible patient care. This includes the need to retain the skills of experienced GPs who make such a vital contribution.’

The scheme will recruit a ‘pool’ of GPs who will be able to work flexibly to provide cover, help carry out home visits and provide other clinical support.
