PHARMACEUTICAL company Pfizer is due to open a new £7m centre this morning.
The firm in New Lane, Havant, will be opening a cold storage facility, which will specialise in sending medicine out worldwide.
The cold storage facility, which is one of the largest in Europe, will be able to store up to 38.4m doses of temperature sensitive vaccines and injectable medicines.
These will then be distributed to clinicians and patients to more than 120 destinations around the world.
Science Minister and Havant MP David Willetts is due to officially open the site this morning.
Jon Tucker, Havant site lead, said: ‘This new facility is at the height of cold chain storage technology and is vital in keeping medicines at the correct temperature that maintains their integrity ready for supply to our customers.
‘The site is recognised as a “centre of excellence for cold chain distribution and packaging”.
‘We have a specialist team here that have developed technologies, which are leading the way in this complex area of supply and logistics.
‘It is providing medicines that improve and save lives, and that’s something the entire team here at Havant is proud to be a part of.’
